GENEVIEVE STERBENZ is the co-author of The Home Spa: Creating a Personal Sanctuary. As a former model, B. knows a lot of beauty tricks, but Genevieve showed her new recipes for making a Salt Scrub and a Fragrant Milk Bath. You dont have to remodel your bathroom or invest in expensive new equipment to create a relaxing sanctuary in your own home. Genevieve has these suggestions:

  • Even if your spa is a tiny shower, hang eucalyptus sprays from the showerhead or in the pockets of a shower curtain. The moisture from the shower will release the relaxing fragrance. If you dont have eucalyptus, any herbs will do.
  • Use fresh roses by the edge of the tub, or sprinkle rose petals in your bath for a really luxurious touch.
  • A stack of thick towels by the bath gives a sense of luxury. Invest in a soft and absorbent bath mat.
  • A bath pillow aids relaxation. A small table or stool by the side of the tub can hold your beauty items.
  • Set up an area in the bathroom where you keep treasured keepsakes that remind you of happy and calm times. These might include seashells from a walk on the beach, an object that reminds you of a loved one or anything else that relaxes the body and soothes the soul.
